IBAN, tax ID and BNR rate tools

Three public tools: IBAN validation, the Romanian tax ID check digit and today's official BNR exchange rates.

What it covers

  • IBAN validator (/validare-iban) checks the length for the IBAN's country, its structure and the check digits (mod 97, ISO 13616). It accepts Romanian and SEPA-area IBANs. For Romanian IBANs it shows the bank and BIC and flags State Treasury accounts (code TREZ). When only the check digits are wrong, it shows the correct ones.
  • CIF / CUI validator (/validare-cif) checks the check digit with the ANAF key 753217532 and shows the calculation step by step. The RO prefix is accepted. A 13-digit code is recognised as a personal ID number (CNP): it is shown masked (last 4 digits only) and is not validated as a tax ID.
  • BNR rate (/curs-bnr) shows the reference rate published by the National Bank of Romania, with EUR, USD, GBP and CHF first, the publication date and a converter between lei and foreign currency.

Keep in mind

The IBAN and tax ID checks run in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Brivio and nothing is stored.

A correct check digit does not prove that the company or the account exists. For the company, use the ANAF tax ID lookup; for the account holder, ask the bank.

The BNR rate comes from the official file curs.bnr.ro/nbrfxrates.xml. BNR publishes it every banking day at around 13:00, and the page picks it up no more than about an hour after publication. If the BNR server does not answer, the page shows an error message instead of silently serving an old rate.

On a foreign-currency invoice, VAT is converted at the BNR rate published on the banking day before the chargeable event (art. 290 of the Romanian Fiscal Code). Brivio applies and stores that rate on every issued document.
